There’s a new Moroccan lounge and bar in Central and it’s a treat for all the senses. Once the elevator doors opened to Lilya's second floor location, our eyes met a beautiful wall of colourful Babouche slippers. There was so much to take in, we almost forgot to look up and notice the ceiling lined with fanoos, traditional glass lamps. Then the sweet smell of perfumed spices emanating from the bar hit us, and we made our way to one of the long velvet banquettes for the night.
New low carb and low calorie menus For those unfamiliar with The Kinnet, it’s a women’s only health and fitness centre in Sheung Wan. The vibe of the whole building is bright and modern, but food lovers will likely have heard of it for its restaurant. Known as The Restaurant by The Kinnet, it’s been serves up “good for you” meals. Its mission says “What we eat fuels our bodies, minds and spirits. So it is no surprise that eating well is one of the keys to improving your tota
Fun atmospheric dining bringing you back to the 1900s I’d been hearing about Buenos Aires Polo Club since it opened last year but had yet to check it out myself. From getting to choose your own knife to the s’mores dessert, most people had only positive things to say. Last Friday, a friend and I made last minute plans for dinner and thought we’d finally give it a try. Because why not celebrate Friday with red meat and carbs? What I ended up loving most of all was the atmosphe
The Envoy is one of my favourite bars in Hong Kong. Located in Central at The Pottinger Hotel, it’s just as wonderful for Friday night drinks on the terrace as it is for a quiet weekday tea in the bar. It drips colonial chic with dark wood, damask-like wallpaper, and colourful velvet accents. As part of Tastings Group (which includes some of Asia's best bars such as Quinary, Origin, and Vea), it’s no surprise that The Envoy has developed a reputation for top notch drinks. For
Experiencing Sabado de Boteco in Soho I’ve always been attracted to the idea of bohemianism, of being unconventional, free spirited, and fun loving. Bohemians enjoy food, drink, art, culture and life in general. A restaurant that celebrates this vibe with a South American twist is a welcome addition to Hong Kong’s polished dining scene. Uma Nota is Hong Kong’s only Brazilian-Japanese street food restaurant. It opened this past March, and was quickly beloved for its chilled-ou
In Hong Kong, new Japanese restaurants seem to open all the time. The ones I hear about are usually concentrated in Central, Causeway Bay or TST, but recently I had the opportunity to try out one further afield in Kowloon Bay. My company has an office in Kowloon Bay so I’d been to the area twice before, but otherwise I don’t usually venture that way. That might soon be changing as the area is experiencing a resurgence. Earlier this year, Camlux opened Kowloon Bay’s first hote
If you asked a group of Hong Kongers about their favourite restaurant in Kennedy Town, chances are a good number would say CATCH. The bright, open, Melbourne-style restaurant has been serving up fresh seafood to happy dinners for a few years now. What people may not realize is that the restaurant is opened by Alex Malouf, the nephew of award-winning Lebanese-Australian chef Greg Malouf. Building on the success of his first restaurant, Alex decided to open up Mama Malouf, a pl
Wonderful pops of flavour at this 'sexy tapas' restaurant In the heart of Sai Ying Pun is a charmingly colourful Spanish restaurant. Since 2015, La Paloma has been keeping Hong Kongers happy with its tasty, accessible brand of “sexy tapas.” We’re not exactly sure what makes them sexy, but we are sure the food is consistently delicious and affordable. This summer, the team are mixing things up and introducing some new goodies to their menu. We recently had the opportunity to s
